{"Your head's pretty big, but not as big as your thighs"}
The Bergdoll as well as Class and Nachod-made micro delights. 4 food groups covered in one beer. 2 pm heavy-hoppin' brews buzz of enormous proportions as we devour half a cheese steak, the tshirt gets the other half. Nothing like hitting a slick "HAB" to open while you feel like your innards are made of cement. BBrrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttt. Puuurrrrrrrt, Buurrrrrrttttt. YES! That helps. Sorry lady, that's gonna destroy your world in t counting 30 seconds. The onion breath spinning freak strikes again.
2nd set of Orgazmik Nature. Best of 2002? Certainly one of the most primal!
The dopamine hit and funky-ass trip that ended the show at the Locust. There are a few more big highlights in this show, don't get it twisted, it was a good show. Yet, something about this Quad gets 'yo boy off. We saw the previous night's Long Island "Senior Boombox release show but had to be back so we missed this show and big fat Schlesinger's off-the-bone roast beef with xtra russian dressing.
A quick holy cow to the set ending "Spaga"!!! This one goes directly into the 2002 Best Of compilation double CD. Barber killing it the whole way through yet as nimble as a Thai masseuse. That 2nd jam.!?!
The whole 2nd is a rockin' wallop of a good time. Tremendous "Dribble" lasting 26 minutes with a mid-tune pure WHO jam a la 1970. Sammy was possessed. into "Shem" going 70. Welcome Back Justin. At around 6 mins in Magner starts us on a terrific electro funk until in dissipates into fragments > then starts its halfway upward climb to end off this fantastic 2 songs into segment (a) of set 2 which are at 45 minutes!
The final 9 minutes of Shem are ga...rrooooooovy. Everyone is on board the bliss jam. Marc is magnifique here. They finally slow down to the "Man Of The Year" docks just in time for one more firecracker coda.
{{{{{{{Most underrated set of the year.
I know there's L.A in March,
April had Norfolk,
the MASS shows,
Meatcamp,
MISH!,
Bisco Nights at Tussey,
August had Lupo's, Hartford and Provy,
One of the best CAMPS evah,
Haymaker,
October in ATL and Athens,
the unreal 10-24/25 shows,
upstate NY in the fall
and finally an A+ New Years Run.
BUT STILL I TELLS YA!!!! I'll put up my lonely Vanderbilt second set against them all on pure musicianship and originality any old time.}}}}}
and then there were 4 + Run (e) ''Aquatic Ape ~> Mr Don [//] ~> Svenghali [inv] ~> Aquatic Ape ending''
One of the better Aquatic ending jams and transitions you'll hear in '02 or well, in 1.0.....for now.
Damn! The final half of Aquatic(1) turns into this manic syncopated "one for all" energy jam of the finest order. The whole second half of Aquatic is very impressive. Starting from a loose n' lazy with deafening bass waves testing the lowest of frequencies into the aformentioned happy panic energy type bliss jam that I wish would have lasted forever yet 8 minutes or so is damn appreciated. Mr. Don is a fantastic version, unfinished, crawling into an inverted Sven. In the first jam we are talking about Mr. Magner mostly. A nice and toasty medium paced jam with total control as Magner gets extremely spacial and psychedelic overtop the long stretching arms from the others below. The mid section disco jam, reminiscent of a killer Dead '76/'77 ''Dancin''' ending wah wah Jerry jam section. Very nice! The start of Don's departure is at 9:20 ish. A pick up in tempo as Barber starts on a great solo while Sammy is Keith Mooning perfectly into a most beautiful Sven ending jam with peaks and valleys from Barber and Sammy.....climbing and climbing into beautiful sky jams!!!! such delight at the Locust tonight. ""In wide open spaces we sing with strings; Launch a full on musical cannonball...........""" yeahhhhhh!!!!!!!!! btw, great soundboard recording; it's got that fat analog sound of the '98 to '02 vibe. atmospheric hallucination brings the inverted perverted Sven into the start of the song....BOOM!! we get in through the back door. I cheat, look at the DAT, there is 8 minutes left....good :) "Our own waterfall....." We enter the jam. A tight, crunchy sounding groove, mainly held by the keys and Brownie's nasty downward strumming into a reset....times 6. As Barber comes in more and more, we are at a pretty trippy part of the Quad closer. Another reprise but now into the Ape closer. 1-2-3 reggae. "we're having a fish for dinner...."
Just more October 2002 madness.
What if I fall? Oh darling, But what if you fly?
