The first couple minutes of Helix are just okay. Around the 5-minute mark, they hit a multi-chord progression that is very cool. All told, this jam turns out pretty nicely, although I’ll probably never listen to it again. The Humu jam is basically just a jam on the second section of Abyss, so I’m not really counting this. The Abyss jam begins as a Kamaole Sands-y jam, but switches around the 7-minute mark to something else altogether. They develop a solid jam heading into Cyclone, even if they botch the transition to Cyclone itself. The Moshi-Fameus jam is fine. However, the jam out is very nice. This has a few different themes. The first is more of a typical dance theme, the second gets dark and very ominous, and the third is nice multi-chord progression. They don’t spend enough time on any of these themes, in my mind, but each is pretty nice in its own way. The Waves jam is out of beginning guitar part, and turns into a slow On Time intro. Not my cup of tea. The On Time jam is a slow four-on-the-floor jam that never really develops into much. This gets faster as they head toward the end of Helix. Meh. The Spaga jam is fine, but doesn’t do a ton for me.
