one of the best weekends of my Bisco life. Incredible sets, people, substances, weather, tent village, environment, chicks, food, go karting, mini golf and other acts.
The Music:
The first set is FIRE! but does peter out towards the end of I and 80% of the second.
The opening "Jam ~> Shem(unf) is A+. Starting cool as a mule, steady with some very nice bass playing and tasty non-stop "opiate-jams" by Barber.... then slowly climbing that jolly mountain towards the RC ending. Phenomenal Biscuits in any era.
My favorite 35+ minutes of the weekend was the following ""Little-Vass-In a Conga Line""
The first Shimmy jam as it heads towards Vassillios is quite nice and gets better each listen. I honestly only remember the weird but appreciated jam from Vass back into Shimmy. I swore at the mountain it was the jam of the year. Perhaps not so but relistening to the Vassillios jam from Barber's perspective at around 9 minutes in and you will be moved. It takes a mid tempo approach and his phrasing in this solo/jam is technically exquisite. Behind the techno sample pad drumming is a look into barber's soul for the interpretation he uses from Brain to fingers is beautiful (IMO) these final 5 -6 minutes of Vass and the segue into Conga Line is not "average" or "meh" to me in any way. A+ funk inside space rock attitudes.
From set 2 , the gold lies in the duo of "Jigsaw(unf)~>Spaga ending jam of 11+ minutes.
In a tune that sometimes lacks inspiration in the middle jams, this Jigsaw is tight! Very psychedelic, eerie and full of originality. A really good version....but then boom, without notion, they fall off the cliff into Spaga way to abruptly and with no real connection. Not the end of the world but they should have started to turn the corner much sooner imo. The Spaga slowly makes up for it in spades.
you could follow a path that took you to the other side of the mountain so enormous psychedelic doses did not confine you.
although, I never did receive my deposit back from our rental at Aikens Cabins. So, my buddy fell and made a whole in the wall....wow, I didn't know a little drywall, puddy and paint cost $200. I digress, it fn' does.
archive has both shows in B/B+ quality. enjoy!
