The Flow to this Show is golden. Every Night Is Heaven Sent.
{{ October '02 - the final frontier of 1.0(?) ; great month, as is the New Years run }} take look at the week of the 17th through the 24th for some great segments.
ps- the Disclogic SBD is very good and so is K.Hughes' crowd source on archive. Make a matrix! Best of both worlds because the high end from the AUD will balance the "deep dolbied to death like sound" of the SBD along with the somewhat far away vocals and give you a nice cleaner copy with more detail.
[C pile] OK to Good Sound One / RLH(1) / Reactor(2) / Shelby
[B Pile] Very Good to Excellent Floodlights / SOTW / D.Buddha / 7-11 / Sister Judy / Boop
[A Pile] Best of / Monumental / Gold Star Sven / K.Mitts / Munchkin / Reactor(1) / Very Moon /RLH(2)/1st inverted Buddha :)
Not too much to complain about tonight.
[I]
<> what a start to one hell of a show. one needs to see a show here at the Theatre, it's Eden.
this Sven is an absolute killer. A lot of ambient psychill throughout reaching a medium paced mountain top. All the parts to a great Sven are here plus a little more.
<> Floodlights - needs to be discussed for the hard space rock jam; this one is above average.
<> Mitts - This Mitts is slow-paced, walking down the street in style funk. Right from 9 minutes it's the hammond led groove that really puts a light on Brownie and the Doctor. Out of the bushes, Barber tastefully adds the simplest of rhythms. No rush here. Just a kick ass jam, then >>>
<> KA-freakin'-BOOM!!!! those pesky Munchkins are on full attack. 3:40 starts the invasion. Nobody starts the untz like Dr. Sammy and Marc. It's one of those long and luscious improvs that bring on a new toy every few bars. Very cool synth effects by Magner, his timing is unreal. Also, there is a cool little space cowboy jam led by Barber a little later that leads to mid-point-mania.
The final jam leading to the segue is probably the best in terms of excitement. Here is where Brownie lays down such a simple but nice bassline as Sammy slices through the beats. Faster, faster, faster, faster......(yes, that's what she said, this morning in fact) >>>> nice 'Sound 1' ender.
<> SOTW - 1st jam good / ending jam = ecstasy. Nice standalone ending tune.
Set 1:: 9.15 / 10
[II] { Reactor ~> Digital Buddha ~> 7-11 ~> Sister Judy's Soul Shack } ! <> Reactor - this Reactor is ready to let loose! Lovin' the machine gun Barber attack at the beginning of the DnB jam at 3 minutes in. This is a nice psychedelic version. It's downright evil, especially with those gnarly big bottom bass offerings that lay atop everything. Now Mr. Mags adds his 2 cents with a gorgeous repeated run of funky lines. All together, you get the Reactor Gumbo...hardcore style. TOP NOTCH. >>> <> Digi Buddha (><) - the Gumbo jam extends into the inverted Buddha like it was created like so. Sammy does great percussion work around this beginning(end) segment. The post ''shadow of the digital Buddha are the countless wise'' > ''Digital Buddha's coming for you'' ending jam is not boring by any means but a little circular. It's average. <> 7-11 (jam > beg) - we're in full dub style and picking up speed! this is one hell of a nice start. very nice solos from Barber as the familiar sounds come in and out. The party starts in full effect at 3:20(Noon in Bed). The final 6 minute adventure starts with a little trip-hoppy psychill in dub mode. The final jam is non-eventful yet pretty original as they end the previous night's <> Sister Judy. - while only 5 minutes or so, they squeeze a very pretty groove here. It's gently, vivid and blissful. No phone-ins here.
Final Sick Segment of regulation Little Betty Boop ~> Shelby Rose ~> Run Like Hell ~> Reactor
<> Boop - I gotta say, 2002 has 3 of the best Boops you'll find. All in the same month of April, 5th / 18th & 24th. you will not be mislead I promise. Sick first jam. Lightning paced Magner truly trips out the place within this speedy tempo. Yes, the 1st half of this Boop goes to Mr. Magner; the MVP. He wasn't here to accept the award so we will be sending him well wishes. At 7 minutes we are in full 'Headlight On A North Bound Train' mode as Betty contemplates her identity as a Casanova. This is the jam I usually wig out on. But tonight is not quite there. A very nice mid tempo guitar section(southern blues) crawls for a bit until the segue to >>>> <> Shelby Rose - Marc is SIGNING the hell out of this version. Well done. The instrumental parts are good but nothing Earth bending. It's a got a nice ending jam that radiates smiles and makes you dance. Not the best of "whatever" but good enough for me. Nice entry into the end of RLH. @@There is also magic in those 2, 3 and 4 star shows. Vent:: sometimes this scene and participants are overly critical. Full Stop With Pure Love.@@ [e] The Very Moon ~> Run A feel good ending is for certain. I especially like the 1st jam with Barber is full control until he fades out a tad to welcome in what the others have to express. Sammy is in Ginger Baker mode, using all that's in front of him in a jazz fusion / hard rock approach. You will notice the percussion here :) The last groove is a carnival jam within some DnB. It's very blissful. Killer encore!
Set 2:: 9.25 / 10
