<<<<< SpaceBirdMatingFall >>>>> "Crash Burn, When Will I Learn?" random show review
old timer SBD (disclogic) pretty good sound; not the best imaging, soundstage or separation. I think these recordings were meant for in-house, band only reasons and not for professional distribution. no complaints, very greatful.
First 3 tunes are pretty standard with all 3 combining to around 12 minutes only. Spy jam into Songs is pretty interesting. 'VeryMoon' is pretty good yet not reaching for the ether or any psychedelic crunch. BUT!! the transition hints at the UFO and you know Spacebird is about to pop. --------->>>>>> 'SBMC" [ughh] instrumentally is ok but the vocals are off and sound like they just awoke from nodding off the sofa with a pint of Ben & Jerry spilled all over their crotch. At around 4 minutes things get coordinated when 'Peter Gunn' teases a lick. Barber is struggling a bit here with either fatigue, being kite as a high or uninterested...or so it seems. The main meat jam takes a little time to unscramble but it does at around 11-12 minute mark...then peters out. Barber settles down into a real nice mid-tempo jam that everyone quickly agrees upon...for 2 minutes. Suddenly, Marc's bass is vibrating chords and notes right through the genitals...'preesh! Not a "good" version but it ends pretty nicely. skip. ------->>>>>> 'Floes' - (standalone) good version. Now the show starts in earnest lol. jk but shit indeed gets the momentum going in a honest and appreciable way. They know enough to bounce back from that mini disaster in SBMC so I think they push the dirty, evil, jams here in this beautiful tune. THIS IS ALL Brownstein!!!!! wow. Between Marc and Magner, they dont play, they express...and it's nice to see them take back the reigns before the show got away from them. The ending 7-8 minute jam is amazing. Sammy is so good here right alongside Magner's high synth sounds. Love it. 'Pilin' It' - standard "Morph" - MVP the bass player. sorta short but what Marc does is just great. ~~ Opening Jam out of the DJ's set doesn't do much but help your trip along. It's pretty cool EDM music (boomer here) If I was there at that time I'm sure I'd be sweatin' with the oldies. ------->>>>>> "GiG" (standalone) - it ain't no 2000-12-28 or 2009-11-20 but it has interesting parts. We see the continuation of Barber getting warmed up. They are in a funky situation and things are going well with the ole' start-stop-start method (also useful in sex) and this is nice as it takes us to the reprise/ending in a satisfying way. "Robots" (standalone) - too short. the "...Save the Robots from themselves...." part is good but there is isn't much to hold on to here. The 1st and last power Biscuits segment of the night: 'Vassillios ~> Jigsaw Earth ~> Svenghali ~> Bernstein and Chasnoff" [50 minutes +/-] "Vass" 4:30 ish; love the sound Brownstein creates for this but again, it disappears shortly after take off BUT not to worry as the following jam is the gum inside a jawbreaker. as per usual it's the kick drum / Marc's terrific bass and Barber's explorations. I think it's a dynamite beat and it goes up a step and higher we go until ----->>>>>>> "Jigsaw" we land on the inverted version within the jam. No pussy-footin' they tear it up. trust. The best jam of the night starts around the halfway point until the end. It's psychedelic DnB with missiles flying overhead. Now they are setting up the melt into an inverted 'Sven' this should be good! ------->>>>>> "Sven" nice entry. of course it feels good, inverted Svenghalis will pump up the vibe of any set by the sheer optimistic feel. This turns into a pretty psychedelic theme but with no direction except for Sammy blasting his snare. Not...the...best version. --------->>>>>> "B & C" - aimless jam until around 6:30 in; the ending jam is quite nice. Astronaut encore is good. There is some redemption here. Home Again with turntables is not my cup 'o tea but not that bad.
Other than 3 -4 good jams, this show is average at best.
rating: 6 / 10 or 2.5/5
"highlights"....The Very Moon , Vassillios, Astronaut MVP: Dr. Sammy
