Great review Mr.Z, well said!
I would grade this show in the year's top 5 shows, yes, top 5 of 2001..."this Canuck has gotten too many pucks to the head". True or not, every single song and run of songs are all gravy baby! Nothing but net, everywhere. The "DTTB" alone can make you end up writing a 2 page review on that tune alone. Beautiful duo with Ladies.
{{{{ The Following is a finalist on the 100 finest "Bisco-Chunk-'o-Funk" list. }}}} The 'Hot Air Morph Balloon" takes up a major chunk of the 1st with something we should remind ourselves about. 'Morph goes through his motions until nearing the halfway point, where Magner quickly says "hold my hair plugs" as he MAGNIFICENTLY synths away the big funky fills all the while creeping, creeping, creeping into a wonderful duo with Barber. Both feeding the frenzy. Shit gets intense. Then they knock knock knock on... ~> 'HAB(1)' What a welcome! Perfect choice. No time to smell what's cooking as we boomerang our asses back into..... ~> 'Morph(2)' nice n' easy until 6mins 12 secs(ish) in and kaboomersloshwhakoo!!!! Brownie Morph Jam Drop! Morph has definitely missed his last few meds as the manic nature of Magner and eerie Barber fills just crawls into a Boris Karloff explosion at Mach 3. What remains of 'Morph(2)' is pure mania, psybient ecstasy , again, row, row, row your Balloon until they make a wonderful twist gingerly back right through the front doors of.... ~> 'HAB2 the return' with everyone as one, where we all feel the prison-breaking crescendo of the ending fun freakout of this amazing song!
This chunk had it all. Let's never forget this!!! Pearl Street had rare gems indeedy. {{{{ THIS WAS ONE OF MAGNER'S FINER 1.0 HOUR(or 52 mins) They all killed, but Mr. Mags was inspired!!! }}}}} Speechless.
If you have roots in metal or hard rock then the opening Spaga ~>AC2B with make you pump those fists a la "Number of the beast" tour '85. It is a psychedelic>funk machine of the highest intentions. 'Spectacle' is Barber playing some really heart-warming stuff! It's just really good Blissco. Jon is on auto-perfect. Y'all know what I mean...A jam that cannot do wrong. Perfectly smooth, exciting and meaningful guitar. This 'Spec' is special. What a jam.
Strain 'o the Day MASS ively potent, takes the blinders off your soul and makes you see the music as a mandala. [Delta 8 Bubba Kush] delta 8 thc: 8.9% / total Cannabs: 26%. This is the strongest Kush I've ever partaken. It's basically doing mushrooms without frisbees for eyeballs. Heat this herb don't burn it! Then listen to this show or better...go to a show.
Get electric and listen to this monster show again or for the first time. Peace....remember that? Love

Boulevard has the slightest nugget of a jam, showing the song’s potential. The Morph jam is pretty standard Morph territory until the thunderous Hot Air Balloon hits come in. Usually this is not the formula for an enjoyable jam, but it’s well-executed and the segue is unique enough for it to register as a highlight. The jam out of Hot Air Balloon is stronger, with a distinct uplifting theme with heavy synth presence that eventually yields to a strong Morph ending. The Morph outro has a few distinct phases. The first is reminiscent of a fall 2000 jam, with heavy distorted synths and restrained Gates of Hell usage. The jam settles down, and Magner moves to the piano. I expected a steady return to Hot Air Balloon territory (and the jam appears to be heading in that direction at first), but Magner delivers some haunting piano lines and the band locks in for a cool melancholy theme before making the return. Story is another typically strong spring 01 version, with a Barber-heavy melancholy theme. The Svenghali is a strong version. The jam begins with a mellow dnb passage. Shortly after the 6 minute mark, Magner moves away from the mellow 01 synth to a foreboding vocoder passage (I can’t understand what he’s saying) and the jam becomes more sinister. This twisted section builds to a crescendo and shifts into Svenghali territory.
Spaga opens set two. It begins standard, but quickly settles into a mellower, almost dubby groove. The groove steadily becomes thunderous, reaching a massive crescendo as the jam concludes. The outro jam starts off with promise, but it quickly becomes a standard Aceetobee intro. It gets more interesting shortly before the track change, but overall it’s pretty standard. The Aceetobee is a very strong version. The second jam is standard (and very well-executed), but the first goes deep. The Down to the Bottom jam begins as expansive trance. After some plunky synthwork from Magner around 6:30, the jam settles into a more melancholy theme. The jam builds in intensity to a triumphant theme that yields an excellent segue into Ladies. The Ladies jam starts out standard, but reaches a haunting passage shortly after the 5 minute mark. It only lasts a few measures, but for whatever reason I really like this part. Afterward, the jam settles back into a Ladies theme, and begins to build in intensity. The Ladies peak is furious, and overall this version is one of the first to show the song’s potential. Bernstein & Chasnoff is a short version in the encore slot, but it has a well-developed type two theme in the middle.
4/5. Consistently strong throughout. The highlights are the Spaga and HAB > Morph > HAB, although there really isn’t any down time.
Stray Observations: Magner is almost certainly teasing something beginning at 25:18 of Spaga, but I can’t figure out what it is.
All-Timers
Track Notes
- S1Hot Air Balloon
Quickly departs Hot Air Balloon territory for a joyous trance jam. The buildup to the Morph ending is ferocious.
- S1Morph Dusseldorf
The Morph outro begins as demented trance and moves to a melancholy, piano-heavy theme before returning to the Hot Air Balloon ending.
- S2Spaga
An expansive and atmospheric jam that quickly leaves behind traditional dnb for a more relaxed, almost dub groove.
