Ozric and the Biscuits! Ass-shaking heaven in Athens. For those of you who haven't ever really taken a deep dive on the Ozric Tentacles, please do so.

Lots of echo on the vocals and no sub-bass. This is one of a 100 good reasons to purchase an inexpensive tone control for your desktop audio, preferably analog and not an app from your PC's EQ. Get a Loki+ from Schiit. Very transparent and a little adjusting here and there really improves those shows that sound dolbied to death, no bass, low vocals, sibilance etc, etc... especially '99 to 2005. It's a minor miracle. It will not change the soul of the sound either.

MVP: Mr. Magner , followed so damn closely by Barberino of course.

Gotta love a show starting with a 'GMAYFM' 90 second Basis ending jam on a dime into a sick Helicopters. Good stuff, this means a full future Basis that will eject right after the jam...this will be significant when melting into Barfly later.

The Magellan is criminally underrated. DARE I SAY...Sammy's best every version? 2000 has the greatest standalone Magellans...print it.

{A Pile: Best of the night, Monumental, Make a note...etc]

Helicopters; (again, Barber does it right) a damn near perfect version if I may say. A very controlled, mellow jam in the key of "welcome to the Biscuits best era" Words are hard lol.

B & C (we know exactly who you are!) Mags is KING; starts on the whistling pedal keyboard(?) then into grand piano, then... things start to melt...the pressure builds...we are leaving the safe zone...the doctor is slamming the kick drum and in a small amount of time we are all in a shared psychedelic ritual....if you let yourself go. This version is an incredible showcase for Magner. He's ill. Barber comes in as DH at the end to polish off this great version with a fun and joyful outro jam.

Crickets; (tastes like chicken, robot jam, porno funk)

Magellan; (I love this one as much as July 5-2001& Nov 9-2000. The gorgeous recipe of pure psychedelia to fusion to prog rock, this version does it all, but more importantly very well. Once the skeletal portion of the tune is played that is where the magic happens. At around 13 minutes in you will see clear as day that this one is for the Day Trippers. Again, Sammy is making it sound way too easy...a familiar point with the Biscuits drummers. This one goes places!

~> Hope (gorgeous instrumental interlude; all 4 members are rowing the boat with equal participatory energy and pace. not the usual cookie cutter versions) great peak climbing in this version. Sven! (monu-fn'-mental!) such a beautiful jam. very much an opiate feeling version. This is error-free including many styles we all come to love....crank it sister! I would love to say it rivals the 10-13 version....and that is a Sven for the ages. One is in the middle of a 3 layer sandwich and the other is a standalone...very different animals yet producing very similar emotions.

{B Pile: Very Good to Excellent]

GMAYFM outro (for cool factor);

MEMPHIS ~>; (simply well played leading to a nice soft landing into Hope)

Basis(beg > jam)~>; (as good as 2000-11-11 or 2000-10-27? no but...)(Sammy is incredible here, MVP of the tune has to be Barber, this version could have easily been thrown from the tracks and crashed into a wall but the adjustments on the fly is one of TDB's best attribute.)The beginning actually sees a little disorganization and a couple of missed cues BUT it's the final 10 minutes that gives this one a ribbon. A cool DnB direction all the while reaching for that climax, the voyage here is quite beautiful and just plain fun. Blissco.

Barfly("I'm Just A Beer Drinking Wrestler Who Likes To Fart") ; I really like hearing them play pretty much straight up blues. This one is a tad better than most versions as Barber completely shapeshifts into Buddy Guy and plays the blues / blues solos with respect while adding just a tad of that Biscuits flava.

{C Pile: The usual motion without emotion/ OK/ Bathroom Break/Beer run]

Wet; (rinse and repeat, no jam)

Home Again (coulda shoulda woulda; not bad at all but it just isn't up to 2000 standards plus, they must be a little worn by now)

the sound.

set 1: 8.00 / 10 set 2+e: 8.20 / 10

Show Highlights

Track Notes

  • S1
    Helicopters

A Barber-led jam in the beginning, which gradually yields to an atonal trance breakdown.

  • S1
    Crickets

A spectacular first jam, probably the best so far and one of the best ever. Excellent theme-building from Barber.

  • S2
    Svenghali

An absolutely evil version, with Magner making notable usage of the Gates of Hell synth.

  • S2
    Bernstein and Chasnoff

A blissful theme develops out of the composition, featuring notable piano presence from Magner. The jam evolves into a trance passage, and explores some sinister territory before returning to the song.

  • S2
    Basis For A Day

The main jam is excellent, with a sinister Shimmy-esque build all the way up to the ending.
