Just a "Voices Insane" post

just a quick "how do ya do" and a sprinkle of magic dust towards this Voices, ya know, the Insane ones. they definitely found the correct formula for this great tune and unlocked it's potential in the summer / fall of 2000. this monster grew and grew as far as the middle exploratory section (imo, may be wrong :) in this time period and severely BLASTED away in 2001 and for me (just me) personally my favorite Voices are from 2002/04 (then '09) If you want some glorious 'Voices Insane' check out Oct.04-2002 Haymaker of course as well as 2002-04-01 out of 'Very Moon', 2001-04-15 in between 'Floodlights' & 'Spacebird', 2001-12-04 out of 'Spaga', 2004-09-03 inside a real nice 'Munchkin' sandwich and finally a 'Voices Insane' that no amount of Thorazine can numb...the fantastic show ending chunk of 'Mindless Dribble ~> Voices Insane(inverted) ~> Save The Robots' on Nov. 26 2004 at Slayreville. {just talkin' 1.0}

ps- this MIndless Dribble (a) ~> Jigsaw ~> AtW is top of the food chain. the 1st half of MD is pretty mellow and noodly but Brownie's basslines hand in hand with Barber's psychedelia is all calculated to lay the groundwork for a good Face-Theft-Right-Off-Your Head at a later point. Trust the Philly process.

thank God we all kept those Disclogics.

love you.

Show Highlights

Track Notes

  • S1
    Voices Insane

Voices had been steadily incorporating longer atmospheric jams since fall 1999, and this is a culmination of that progression.

  • S1
    Shem-Rah Boo

Experimental and mellow, the jam has two distinct themes and peaks before settling into the Floes intro.

  • S2
    Mindless Dribble

The legendary jam drops instantly into a type two dub theme, replete with eerie vocal samples and mournful guitar riffs. The pace steadily quickens as the jam builds to a spectacular major key crescendo. Barber delivers some gorgeous riffs, and Brownstein’s pounding bass line (reminiscent at moments of a Confrontation ending) pervade the jam. After an uncomposed peak, the jam strips down to minimalist trance: a few simple riffs from Barber and Magner over Sammy’s simple trance beat and Brownstein’s dubby bass riff. The jam yields another thrilling build, this one culminating in the Jigsaw chase section.

  • S2
    Above The Waves

Playful, “pirate funk” dub jamming. The jam builds to a symphonic crescendo and in the ensuing minutes devolves into chaos, segueing into a ferocious Dribble ending.

  • S2
    Mindless Dribble

The jam launches into a spectacular theme immediately. Magner’s work on the piano is absolutely haunting, and he is complemented by some creepy and vaguely atonal riffs from Barber and, soon, some vocal samples from Brownstein. This segment is woefully short-lived, however, and it breaks down shortly thereafter. The jam that builds up from here is sinister as well, building up to a well-executed fall 2000 trance vehicle and culminating in another Jigsaw chase section.
