First Memphis jam is basically exactly what you’d expect. Not a whole lot memorable going on here. The second jam here begins with some great phrasing from Magner, including some really neat textural effects. There is some really spacey stuff going on in this jam, and I’m here for it. Unfortunately, around the 12-minute mark, they drop this and change gears completely. What results is a major key jam that’s a lot more ethereal than spacey, which I’m usually okay with. However, here I don’t think the resulting jam is anything all that special. I’ll denote this as a highlight but it had so much more potential than this. First Spaga jam is the usual DNB fare, and there’s not a whole lot going on here that’s out of the ordinary. After Spaga middle there’s a drop jam into Pygmy. Jam out of Pygmy isn’t bad, but nothing noteworthy either. Wet is standard.
Story has a generic funk dance jam in it over the first few minutes. However, around the 13-minute mark, Allen drops an e-kick and the band gets into a much more interesting bit of improv. This is pretty good, even if it’s fairly inside-the-box playing. I hate the song 42. Hate it. It inarguably creates some solid jams for some reason, but I hate the song so much. The jam here is very solid. Barber creates a nice minimal guitar riff, Magner colors the upper registers with some spaced out noises, and Brownstein locks in on a great groove. Solid stuff all around. Allen drops the e-kick again here and it’s just…chef’s kiss. Good stuff. Lunar drops immediately into the typical dub jam. This one has some really nice stuff from Magner, really emphasizing the psychedelic downtempo feel they strive for so hard with a lot of these. This develops into a really nice uptempo trance jam. The Naeba jam is weird. They keep sort of playing Naeba. Like in the middle of the jam. Okay? Eventually they get into a weird jam with more e-kick. Magner teases Billie Jean, and the whole band just generally is kinda playing repetitively with no direction. The Tricycle jam never really comes together for much more than the Story peak. Eh. On Time encore has the usual short-ish jam.
Highlights: Memphis (2), Story, 42, Lunar
