We were on our way to see 2 Panic shows when our car blew 2 tires in northern Ohio so we called an audible, towed the car to the garage got a room in Cleveland and went to this show. Sept. 2010 is a very good month imo and this show demonstrates that in spades. Papadosio, for me, would be 100X better if that guitarist would be more involved but it is what it is. They had a few cool psychedelic atmospheric tunes. Pretty cool opener. ~ Set I: The meat of this rock n' roll pie starts with the killer couple of ''Shem'' ~> ''AC2B'' (nb - if you want to hear a magical SRB from this period, go to 5 days later at the infamous Mount Tom show in Holyoke MASS. Killer show...unreal Shem out of a nice Reactor)
This Shem really gets cooking with a gorgeous Blissco jam at around 7 minutes. Barber is on top of his game and the rest are as one. I need to remind y'all that Allen was indeed dropped here on Earth in the 80's from the Andromedan system and is a cyborg...proven.
Perfect control here as they wind down to welcome in 'AC2B' for they omit the "ending" of Shem. Nice build up then ker-plunk drop that funk into the crystal clear Barber guitar intro...the pace is a tad slower=wonderful. This is honestly some of the cleanest Jon has played since the winter and perhaps fall '09. Go listen, smooth, like strawberry ice cream. Mr. Mags gives us some tasty "Funkytown" grooves while Barber eventually finds the sound he wants then at 8:15 a very enjoyable jam. That 'AC2B' crescendo gets us every time. Thank the Heavens Allen has that drum machine, he is the master of knowing exactly what to implement as far as style and rarely shits his trousers. A very interesting version; in every way. Are you liking his distortion/fuzz pedal in this song? From 14 minutes until the end at 23 minutes it's sky-opening/ big smile/ sweaty dancing time. A very cool version.
Pat & Dex set closer? yes please. 'Sherr wants her lolly lolly. Sherr wants her lollypop.' Very nice, well executed version with Marc's best song so far. He attacks this tune with great bass in an odd time signature. Barber kills the solo, Mags sweeps the hammond sound nicely. A great 8 minute P & D. Short but oh so sweet!
Set II: B&C outro ~> Tricycle! Pretty predictable yet there are a few nuggets that are sure to please such as the first set of lyrics, Marc omits the bass for a while then bounces and slaps his evil way back in like a DOCTOR! Things get beautifully psychedelic around the halfway point and it works well as the "chunks" of music are spaced apart leaving room to find the eventual yellow brick road. Into a cool dance beat now with Marc filling in all gaps with terrific basslines.
~> Bombs - one of the best things to come out of the "lean years" of 2011 to 2014 is indeed Bombs. The best being August 25/2010 in Dewey Beach out of "Vassillios" the other at Mayan Holidaze 2011. The closing jam is magnifique. Hitting those peaks wonderfully! Other than a really nice Little Lai encore, the last piece of heat is in.... ""~> Catalyst ~> Mulberry's Dream"" like Bombs, this tune (Catalyst) got really good in '09/'10 but also from 2011 through 2014. A lovely bridge piece, most of the time, uniting 2 different ideas if you will. The tune pretty much stays it's normal course until the great jamsition back into 'Mull's Dream' The final 3 minutes are crunchy as hell. ~> Mullberry's Dream: the halfway jam / guitar solo is worth the price of admission right there. Excellence! Holy shit, Barber's finest moment of the night. Make a note. Lastly, the B & C reprise / show ending jam is excellent as well.
Show Score: 7.75 / 10
""Strain 'o The Day"" : a VERY heady high that eventually leads you to chase your partner around the house to perform feel good acts on each other. [PHANTOM OG] perfect hybrid. when you're a cross between OG Kush and Phantom Cookies good things are on the horizon. This herb truly takes off the blinders and really shows you the wonderful world and wonderful people that reside here...contrary to the "narrative" some will try to convince you of. The freaks and friendly astronauts are out there just find them :) This beautiful bud is truly a Biscuits' fan dream. A tight cerebral high that will last the whole show seeing and hearing things like never before and by the time you get your poster and leave the venue you and your crew will find Slyman's Deli and eat 2 pastrami on rye sammys with three hands.
Pace & Love...
