It's the kind of show that may look timid and somewhat uninspired on paper but the truth is that most of the music tonight is very much inspired...they "gave a shit" more than usual if you will.
Set 1 HL; 'Little Lai' is a great opener energy wise. Good version although standard.
The standalone 'House Dog' is satisfying and features some gorgeous keyboard work.
The heat really comes on hard during the 'Jigsaw' segment. It's a flawless version IMO. A half hour jam from middle to end with substance, emotion and an incredible "BAND EFFORT". The switch in awesomeness from before and after Jigsaw is pretty apparent.
~> nice transition into the inverted 'Munchvasion" , let the psychedelic reggae begin. I love the jam near the beginning, perfect inverted call. At 4 minutes Mr. Mags starts of the jam with a real tasty run while Barber adds some tight rhythm work. This is working so well you pray it won't e nd. A+ jam here.
Set 2 HL: 'Confrontation ~>' terrific, solid Biscuits jamming, no one really taking the lead, that is until around 10 minutes where the outro jam is on it's way to 'Tempesttown' and Marc is nicely cranked up and laying down the funkiest of low-end madness while Magner breathes-in slow and steady synth eeriness. It turns into Tempest perfectly tapering slowly off the Confrontation theme just a minute ago. It's your "typical" Tempest with extra mustard. Great ass-wiggling funk throughout. No real aimless noodling just a technically excellent version with lots of tension>release, especially the 7 minute mark ecstasy stomp jam. This ain't no boring segue normative jam. Magner's swirly sweetness is the last section as a most happy groove kicks in~~>>
~> 'B & C' (inv) great inverted call to extend the jams. Thanks Marc. The segue ending beginning plays perfectly to around 4:45 when the Almanac's Authors Litigation fun gets told. I always though a 5 second stop in this song to play the "Stash" clap would be good....what do I know? Now we have near 12 minutes to play with. The first jam is a little messy video game soundtrack led by Mr. Mags which sorta fizzles out; at around 12 minutes in, we get some interesting sounds overtop a simple jam, switching from synth violin theme to a great ending jam. Now were in the 'Confrontation' jam>reprise. A good dance groove with a 'Floes' tease takes us there. It's a basic but good ending to "Confrontation" nothing mind-blowing, just feel good Biscuits.
The final shining moment of the run has to be the standalone 'Floodlights". Happy BDay Andy! Dynamite version. Starting with a "Trucker's Choice" background jam as Mark speaketh. This is nice and creepy. One of the better versions you'll hear, it manages to be excellent in it's simplicity as well as it's perfect choices at each instrumental section. Jon is in PERFECT tempo just gliding along in Gilmour-like solo strumming of the kindest order. The bass is dark and delicious. Every break into a new section brings out a ton of great crowd reaction...this version is something special. Especially the last 3 minutes...Jon creates a truly beautiful ending section with tons of emotion. So fucking elegant!! Without a doubt the best version of the year. Holy Shit this inspiration moves me brightly.
Stone Waltz to end the show! Love it. The instrumental section is fabulous as per uze. At 4:20 ish this Waltz jam shines like a sunrise from the Narrows in Zion Park UT. More great breathwork by Jon as his selections for solos are exquisite! It gets very psychedelic, if this isn't an all time "DW" then I'm in the wrong dimension. This goes on for a nice while until they come back on theme at around 8:30, which is....the end of the show :)
Downright jaw-dropping. The playing, the setlist architecture, the sound of the recording, the patience, "Staying-In-Your-Lane" playing and of course, the April Fool....Jon. What else would you expect from a dude whose hero is Wes Montgomery for one! ~~ final score: 8.5 / 10 Floodlights, Jigsaw~>Munchkin, Tempest~>Munchkin(><), Devil's Waltz ~~ Strain 'o the Day my favorite strain to combat social anxiety, the shakes, hangovers and simply general ease and mental relaxation. It's everywhere so get your beautiful self there and buy an 1/8th to see if my words are empty or not. You will be pleasantly surprised. Average THC at around 18% & 20% THC-A. A cross between Grape Stomper and Cherry Pie, this great hybrid is valium in a bud and a million times better for you. [Grape Pie]
Peace.
