Going back through the year of 2021, starting with 3/25/21 Orlando. I’ll be making stray observations and tossing out some highlights. Figured I would share along the way.

While I enjoy the entire segment of KOTW->< Grass is Green-> Don, the KOTW outro/jam is where they reached that extra level of Bisco; that level that changes your plans for the next few decades of your life. Here, it was but briefly chilled with, but would’ve been enough on its own had I made it down. Super melodic, fluently thematic BLISSCO adventure; I Just danced around my apartment living room as if they were playing live in my head! Exciting little BLISSCO space examined in that ‘Don,’ although it never quite reached the level of the KOTW jam. Fun, if not overly adventurous, first set of the “tour.”

After a solid “type I” Helix opener the the ‘Munchkin’ begins a monster ‘Invasion’ sandwich. There is brilliant counterpoint interplay between Magner and Barber the entirety of jam, both gently shifting between different tones and shadings of more or less the same one of two riffs; really pretty stuff mixed with some sharper guitar undertones. Darker turns ahead, this ends up being quite the adventure into ‘Orch’ when it’s all said and done. The last two and a half minutes of the SBD ‘Munchkin’ could have easily been applied to the front end of the ‘Orch,’ the clear shift to its intro is very palpable. The jam in ‘Orch’ isn’t bad or anything, but it did lose my interest fairly quickly. It was also going for that plateau of BLISSCO that the two prior highlights had achieved, but it never quite gets there for me. The rest of the show is average, solid Disco Biscuits, especially for a first night of “tour,” so to speak. However, the clear highlights were done.

Overall, not a bad start with some very clear highlights that would definitely draw me back to listen - even if just to those highlights. See you all tomorrow…

Safety Dance begins with a drawn out intro. Neither this nor Bazaar Escape has a jam. The jam out of KOTW has a Blissco vibe from almost the very beginning. I enjoyed almost all of this, even if this was very inside-the-box jamming. It’s hard for me to care too much about this Grass is Green jam. This is so obviously a Mr. Don intro jam from the very first note. That’s not necessarily the worst thing in the world, I suppose. They craft this kinda goofy little jam with some unique leads from Magner. The Don jam just doesn’t do anything for me. Barber plays this descending riff throughout that is alright, but just never really grabbed me. Therapy is jamless.

Helix jam to begin the second set is just okay. The Munchkin jam has a Blissco feel to it. I enjoyed parts of this, though I wasn’t blown away by any of it. Middle Orch Theme jam is again, just okay. This is mostly paint by numbers. The jam out of Orch Theme into IFL is very boring jambandy “dance” music. I didn’t really care about this at all. There’s a brief jam before Tempest out of I Feel Love that just doesn’t get a chance to breathe. The Munchkin peak is very solid, but the jam beforehand is forgettable.

Highlights: KOTW, Munchkin
