Morph’s jam never really ventures outside typical “Morph jam” territory, but I don’t hate it. Magner abuses the clav here, and it has a nice little funk to it. Not great, not terrible. KOTW has a weird jam coming out the middle that I like the start of, but it never really goes anywhere I care for. WLTP’s jam seems like something I would like, but I just can’t get into it. Magner’s arps don’t really do it for me here, although I think Marc is generally on point. The Freebis Slinky jam has a cool Shpongly feel to the beginning of it where is kind of feels like psy-dub. I like what they’re doing here, even if it doesn’t develop as much as I’d like or get as weird as I’d like. The Waves jam is fantastic. Magner does get weirder here. I wish they nailed the peak a little bit more, but overall I’m really happy with and found it impossible to stop nodding my head along with Allen’s thunderous kick drum. Electric Slinky. What is happening with all the slinky songs? 42 lasts for a year as always. The jam out of it starts with this airy Magner-piano-led theme. Barber and Marc sit in the pocket nicely and Magner steps out in front for a bit. Eventually they take it down much lower, and build back up again nicely. Leading into the ending of Abyss, the band triumphantly soars with Magner and Barber playing nicely off of each other. Barber gets in some beep boops in the ending jam that are a nice little touch. I loved this. The jam out of Abyss never really goes anywhere before they jump into the Tractorbeam jam. Not even a “space” section. Damn.
