The jam out of Shimmy has a very dark feel to it, and Magner touches upon some really unique patches here. This wasn’t mindblowing by any means, but solid and kept my attention. Obviously Shimmy Shanker is an all-time pairing, and the jam out of Boom Shanker is really solid. Again, I don’t think they’re doing anything groundbreaking here, but it kept my attention and was enjoyable. Would I re-listen to it? Probably not. Pygmy was fine, but nothing noteworthy, and frankly Tempest is the same. Konkrete is frustrating. The jam does nothing for me, but this used to be a song I liked a lot. I understand it’s not popular with most, but I really liked the old “creepy” vocal style, and I don’t care for this rework at all. Let’s Dance > Abyss did not wow me, and I’m annoyed at the instant-transition into Ladies. If you’re going to segue into the beginning of Ladies, at least jam into it. Ladies > Gamma Goblins is the first portion of this show that I genuinely enjoyed, but it’s still nothing incredible. I typically don’t look at the setlists the first time I listen to a show, and I thought, “Wow, almost sounds like Brownstein is teasing one of those old Posford tunes. Lo and behold, he was in fact beginning the rest of the band to join him in the next song. It almost felt at one point like Brownstein was moving toward You and I as he was hitting on the exact rhythm from the beginning of that song. Another guilty pleasure song I’d still enjoy. The jam out of Gamma and into Ladies peak felt uninspired, and Reactor (a song whose jams I rarely lose my mind for) was about what I expected. Not a terribly interesting show, wall-to-wall.

It was a valiant effort, but day 2 of camp this year was so hot and humid that Allen got sick mid-set 1 (though never missed a beat!) and there wasnt much energy in the crowd. The winner of the weekend was the next day moon set in honor of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing
