Hope > Pilin > Sven looks absolutely awful on paper to me. I’m not a big fan of the Biscuits’ take on DNB most of the time. The Hope jam is not outright bad, but not anything here that would make me want to relisten, and the Pilin jam is about the same. The Spraypaint jam spends way too long getting stuck in the “outro” portion, and when they leave they speed up artificially and prepare for the transition into TVM. Both TVM jams are a little too jambandy for my tastes.

The Spectacle intro jam remains one of the thing this band consistently makes pleasant to listen to. This is rarely groundbreaking, but rarely not something very nice as well. Most of Catalyst involves treading heavy amounts of water. The Abyss jam is very weird. They build up for a minute or so, and what they build into is…nothing? Allen’s drums just drop out unexpectedly and without intention. They come back in and work toward RLH, but this just falls flat for me. I also don’t really care for Brownstein’s main riff, in which hard-hit notes on 1 and 2 are doing most of the heavy lifting. Meh. Barber has a huge Catalyst peak fakeout before the RLH drop, and they absolutely crush this peak. A lot of the RLH 1 jam feels like another Catalyst jam, which is a weird/cool mashup thing in my mind. I actually enjoy this, even if the jam itself is pretty paint-by-numbers. Sammy comes out for the 2nd jam, and this is pretty boring stuff. This is by no fault of Sammy, as I think he actually does what he can to make this a little more interesting. However, Brownstein’s plodding bassline here does nobody any favors. As they head toward Ladies, I think this does get marginally better, and god bless Sammy he is certainly doing what he can to make this more interesting from a drumming perspective. However, it just never gets there in my mind. The Highwire jam has a very nice dance jam. Again, nothing too unique going on here, but very solid. During the RLH peak, Barber again teases Catalyst which is neat.
