< Never miss a pre tour-ending show! >
Ladies and Gents... Marc Brownstein, bassist for the Disco Biscuits, voter activist, nature activist, cool guy........and jewish! Also the MVP tonight.
I do believe the taste of the L.A. show is out of our system. We had a monumental 'Abraxas' last night amongst other gems.
I'm in a great mood so perhaps you can take that into consideration for what it's worth :) ~~ --> 2nd show opening Flash Mob in 4 shows....no complaints, I was in the mood for it, tomorrow may be different. --> 42 (the meaning of life and other queries humans have) The 1st jam is pretty fierce. Barber sounds great. So nimble brah! The segment after 'Humu' ends with the 42 reprise/end so we have a 9 minute improv canvas to play with, shall we go? you and I? while we can? Well, I must say Barber is loose and full of juice tonight, but Marc? he is on another level 42. Very "dreamy" jam while climbing the feel good ladder to finish the tune and head over to Hawaii.... --> ''who-moo-who-moo-noo-koo-noo-koo-ah-pooah-ah'' nothing mind-blowing here until around the 6 minute mark or so. I adore this section, some may not, it just has such a nice tempo, feel and a tone of positivity if you will. No peaks and valleys. Space rock. --> nice segue into 'Lunar P'. great choice. An extension of mood and wonder as the long keyboard sweeps crawl across your mind. Hearing a good 'Lunar Pursuit' at a show especially, and I speak for I and I only but it is something semi-sacred. I really enjoy this tune...carbon copies or not. Johnny B. Barber has a really nice solo in the first pass. Like a few of their tunes, 'LP' is in the architecture of big rush > dreamlike > big rush > dreamlike....Allen suggests a faster tempo on some dynamite snare work but they zoom by that exit and head towards HEAVENLY PSYCHEDELIFUNK. Damn that's a nice ending. For the ultimate "Lunar P" go to Denver from Feb.13-09. --> 42 - the ending. Listen to Marc lol. On like D.K. Oh and Barber peaks it really nicely. --> Basis Quality pre-drop intro. You are begging for that bomb to obliterate! Tremendous pre "stick up" jam. Truly. Great tempo, a little faster than usual with everyone in fine form. This the Basis ending you hope for. Very good version.
Set 1:: 7.15 / 10
set 2
--> thoroughly impressive debut of 'Naeba' even with the occasional off key vocal. you can see they are trying all sorts of potential avenues to go down in the future. I think this is a good version as a debut. Damn!
--> 'Crickets" (after dark music to cuddle to)
Terrific jam in the last quarter of the song. This is A+ Barber in effect. So funky.
--> (inv) Shimmy
what a segue jam lol. the fists are pumping and the ladies are spinning. Brownie...you're killing me man. so good. Bass solo and all. Entwhistle ova heere. While not on the level of the version in Nashville on Sep 24, it's got substance for sure. At 12:30 ish, I thought they were diving into 'Nughuffer'' for sure but alas not tonight or anytime since September.
The ending is pretty redundant but they hit..."Confrontation"... teaser >
--> 'AtW' with much momentum and fierceness as these Waves are inverted hence the power ending of course.
Mags really takes over at around the 10 minute mark. This is one hell of a groovy jam. Magner sounds great as Jon shimmies in with some tasty rhythm work of his own.
--> 'Crix' (2) jamout (unfinished)
this flows beautifully with many peaks and valleys / tension and release. The last half of this segment is pretty uneventful. Motions.
--> 'On Time'
This is where the absent 'Nughuffer" should have been inserted. (woulda, shoulda, coulda) this tune didn't really do much for me.
ENC: 'Wet'
standard.

Much Love.
[ I used to smoke weed. I still do, but I used to, too.]
