((<<<KMitts ~~> RobotS>>>)) [10] ((<<< Caterpillar ~~> Crickets>>>)) [9] ((<<<Crix (divided into 2)>>>)) [9]

There were at least 3 Herbie Hancock jams/teases(worthy of note) all over the set. 'Chameleon' , 'Little One' & 'Palm Gease' in Robots , Sven and SotW.

I really tried to get close for this terrific set after hearing themre completely jam-out the best KMitts version I've heard, but alas, much too high to squeeze through a thousand people to get to the rails.

A supreme festival and an equally impressive showing by the boys. A lot of bands you might like had monster sets at this particular DLakes Fest. UMPH was fire as was Ratdog, moe and Derek Trucks Band amongst others.

A very easy A/A+ show/set. Is this the perfect Biscuits setup?! Straight no chaser non-stop festy set in the sweaty and electric crowd.

Summer of '07...oh my sweet love, I miss you so.

peasse n naggs

(MAC1 + Wedding Cake) are great strains for this set alongside a ginger ale, Heineken or a bottle of Portuguese's great ANSELMO MENDES TEMPO '16 wine.)

This show is so interesting from a setlist perspective, as there is a lot going on that they would not normally do. Jammed out Kitchen Mitts?! Inverted Bazaar Escape?!?! Yes. Please. The Mitts jam develops rather quickly into a DNB jam. This is probably the best version of Kitchen Mitts in history, so please be sure to enjoy it. Near the end of this, they get into a sort of “repeater” jam, which I could do without, but overall this is great. The Robots jam has a solid groove to it, and Magner teases Chameleon by Herbie Hancock a few times. They segue into Home Again nicely (another somewhat unique aspect here), though the jam itself is not all that unique and sounds like many other Robots jams. Home Again has a jam that sounds a lot like Triumph for a good chunk of it, capped by the fact that Brownstein flat out plays the Triumph bassline for a good portion of the jam. This is almost more than a tease, to be honest. I’ll note this as a highlight, simply for its uniqueness, but I don’t find myself overly moved by much of this jam. The Robots jam into Sven is fine, but nothing outstanding to my ears.

The Caterpillar jam has several different phenomenal portions. The early section of the jam has a great bouncy groove, initiated by Magner, then latched on to by Barber as they play in tandem with one another. There is a bit of a lull in the jam when the band switches from a dance jam to a breakbeat jam. However, at the 9:50 mark, they slow down and head toward Crickets, and Magner comes up with some marvelous themes here. I have heard this particular jam so many times over the years, and Aron’s work here is absolutely top notch. The theme that he comes up with around the 11-minute mark of Caterpillar (and carried over into the Crickets track) is amazing. This is psychedelic, interesting, and so, so creative. The little trill at the end of the melody is so great. The jam out of Crickets is mostly fine, but the last couple of minutes here are great. Barber has a brutal flubbed note at one point that physically pains me, but the rest of the segue into inverted Bazaar is really neat. The jam out of Bazaar Escape is very nice, and turns into an uptempo dance jam pretty quickly. This honestly sounds like it’s headed for Munchkin for a good chunk of it, before veering off into Crickets territory. The last minute of the Crickets track and the first couple of minutes of the Orch Theme track dissolve into a spacey ambient jam that features some neat stuff from Allen, and great communication between he and Brownstein in order to start the dark, dancy beginning of Orch Theme from this space. Awesome. Wish this lasted longer, but it is a festival set, so I guess I kind of get it. Most of the Orch Theme jam into the Caterpillar ending is water-treading as far as I’m concerned, and there wasn’t much here I cared about other than the Caterpillar ending composition, which is so much better with the G > Eb switch from Marc. Story to end the show is the usual generic “funk” jam and of course Highwire is jamless.

Highlights: Mitts**, Home Again, Caterpillar**, Crickets (1, 2), Bazaar
