superb first set! full stop.

Please remaster this good show. The Nugs and disclogic SBDs suck and under analysis are in fact from a lossy source. Get Rich in the vault and fix this puppy.

much love

The opening Munchkin jam has a neat theme from Barber for a bit, but they unfortunately force an abrupt key change to get to Cyclone, and this felt a little jarring to me. The jam out of Cyclone has a great progression from Brownstein and accompanying guitar work from Barber. I didn’t think this was amazing or anything, but certainly a solid jam. First Dribble jam has some soulful guitar licks from Barber, with some great textural play from Magner in the background. I’m generally not blown away by 2.0 first Dribble jams, but this is nice. The jam out of Confrontation starts out sounding like they’ll head immediately into Confrontation ending, but they pull back and this turns into a dark, ominous sounding dance jam. I dig it.

The jam out of Confrontation into Hot Air Balloon has some marvelous lead work from Magner. This has an almost middle-eastern vibe to it at times. This jam is entirely about Magner and his great lead work in the upper registers as Barber mostly plays rhythm here. The HAB jam does very little for me. They list this as “Let It Be” tease but this is more like a Let It Be jam. The Ladies jam into O Fortuna does nothing at all for me, and honestly I was pretty bored during most of this jam. The jam into Spacebird is about the same. That said, the jam out of Spacebird and back to Ladies has a great darkness about it. There is a portion of this where it’s just noise from Barber, and this section kind of dragged on a bit. However, once he gets locked back in, the band is totally driven toward dark, psychedelic dance until the Ladies peak. The Pygmy > HAB segment has a nice little jam that evolves slowly into HAB ending. Barber’s work here is particularly nice after the switch to the HAB track on the soundboard. The Reactor/Pilin sandwich really just does nothing for me at all, and while I like the idea of three jams in an encore, I’m disappointed in the execution which is mostly mediocre.

Highlights: Cyclone, Dribble (1, 2), Confrontation, Pygmy*
