The jam out of Vassillios comes out of a unique spot, and I wish they would have continued trying things like this with Vassillios. In any event, this develops into a great little jam into the beginning of Memphis. First Memphis jam is forgettable. Second jam is phenomenal. Barber has a great little riff that Magner plays off beautifully. This is really wonderful. The second Vass jam turns into a spacey dance jam featuring some phenomenal and interesting leads from Magner. Spacebird jam doesn’t do much, and mostly treads water until the switch to RLH. On the other hand, the jam out of RLH back into Spacebird has a great mysterious feel for a good chunk of it. Again, very interesting stuff from Magner.
Barfly and KOTW are standard to start set 2 (Barfly has a short type 1 jam). Humu has a dark, ominous jam that turns into something amazing. This gets a little psychotic and terrifying sounding, and is very unexpected coming out of Humu. Awesome stuff. Plan B even gets a little more out there than it typically does. There is a short jam prior to the beginning of Spaga that is just okay. First Spaga jam is a kinda reggae jam. Doesn’t do much for me. Second jam never really gets out of type 1 territory. The Confrontation jam gets dark and techno-y. Works for me! Abyss starts out dark and dissonant, but they never seem to land on anything cohesive here before pulling the ripcord for Confro ending. 42 encore jam is actually pretty well fleshed out and not bad. This is a standard dance jam, but I like it, especially as an encore.
Highlights: Vass (1,2*), Memphis (2**), RLH, Humu**, Confrontation*, 42
