[A Very Psychedelic Run To Start Off Spring!]
"Lord, It Sure Has Benn A Long Hard Drive"....
I have seen the boys at both Higher Grounds for 18 shows. This 3 day run, although it had some mistakes and uninspired segments and jam, was a GREAT 3 DAY RUN!!!!
It must be said that it was much better live that the couch reviewers say with meh here and a meh there (no local shit slinging here). Gimme a break. It was still a trip filled affair and the dancing was ricouculous. I will stand by these shows forever, especially being the CD release party run. These signed CDs and posters for hours before and after the shows, no problems. They had many VIPs to deal with etc..... Also being the first shows on US soil in the spring, they had a new drummer and pressure from contracts a substance or two etc. I try to include weird, sideways, outside factors that might tank a show or run and not just analyze the music. Plus weird, freaker stories around said shows is imperative.
A solid 6.9 / 10

Terrible start to the show. Highwire with a 2-3 minute jam, IRW which is jamless, and Sweating Bullets, which is jamless. Meh city. There is a short type 1 SITA jam here. This doesn’t last more than a minute or so, but lays groundwork for future awesome jams out of this section. To my knowledge, they only did SITA jams a couple times in 04, and this particular version seems to reflect the band’s interest in ’06 of expanding this section. The Astronaut jam itself is a forgettable breakbeat jam. The Munchkin jam is a driving, fast-paced trance jam. A lot of this is filler, but there are pockets here that I enjoyed.
Hope is standard. The Ladies jam here has some really neat dissonant jamming from the band. This is full-steam ahead, all-out trance jamming. This is not necessarily their most interesting playing, but I noted this as a highlight. If you like dark trance jamming, this is absolutely for you. The jam out of Abyss is pretty boring, although the Ladies peak is pretty solid. Sven > Handcuffs > Sven is a half-hour of forgettable DNB. SJSS is standard. A 27-minute HAB encore is pretty sick, just as a concept. Unfortunately, execution here is a lot of treading water and uninteresting jamming.
Highlights: Munchkin, Ladies*
