It's thanksgiving 2023 and I'm here to say: Mr. Zan and tpace, thank you both for your contributions to this site. I truly appreciate your reviews.
Oh and for the record, my Clifford Ball was 04/07/2001. :)

The Triumph jam is fantastic. There is continuity with the similarly excellent 9/13 version: this version explores every corner of Triumph improv imaginable. Here, however, the breakdown is not sudden or unearned, and the segue into Vassilios is masterful, with a raging crescendo before the drop into the song. The Vassilios jam is pretty short and standard, and breaks down to blissful ambience as it segues into Jigsaw. The Jigsaw is a superlative version. The band wastes no time on a pre-chase section jam, and the trance jam gets off to an excellent start. Magner delivers a spacey synth line that forms the backbone, and Barber joins on a complementary riff as the jam builds steadily to a frenzy. There is the vaguest hint that the jam will turn sinister around the 13 minute mark, before it builds up to a glorious Jigsaw peak. The dub jam is pretty standard, but there’s a nice drawn out groove and a solid ending. The Spaga is top-shelf atmospheric dnb. Barber misses his cue for the ending, but the jam is still very solid. Spaga has a great outro jam with a catchy Barber riff that segues smoothly into Astronaut. Astronaut is pretty standard, but the vamp to the ending is excellent.
The Reactor vies with 9/8/01 for the title of greatest ever, although it is probably less iconic. Like that version, this one has two distinct, strong themes. The first is a standard but strong Reactor theme that builds to a fakeout peak before breaking down into a slow groove (unlike 9/8 which lost no steam between themes). Some will argue that the breakdown automatically makes this version inferior to 9/8, but I would disagree: the slow buildup to Ladies is perfect. A steady, mellow full-band groove with all the characteristic fall 01 sounds builds up to a huge peak. The Ladies jam is very mellow trance. It doesn’t build in intensity at all, but proceeds along this mellow, melancholy line before breaking down almost entirely. From here it builds with patience to an excellent Crickets peak. The Crickets funk is barely a jam, and it melts into an I-Man intro. The I-Man features some Crickets funk teases in between the verses, which is a very cool touch. The middle jam is a standard vamp with a strong conclusion. The main jam starts off standard, but has a very cool percussive breakdown around the 13 minute mark as it returns to Crickets funk territory, completing the inversion. The jam out of Crickets is way more subdued than usual. It treads water for most of the track, until it begins to build slowly and steadily to a Run Like Hell intro. Run Like Hell has an excellent and very fun mid-verse jam that gets into some sinister territory, a brief dub passage, and some more tense jamming including Shimmy teases before returning to a massive Run Like Hell peak. The jam out of Run Like Hell quickly builds up to speed. After some halting, start-stop jamming, it’s a pretty standard progression to the ending.
5/5. The second set is front-to-back flawless, but the real highlights of the show may be in set one, with Triumph and the trance jam in Jigsaw Earth. Reactor > Ladies and the mid-verse jam in Run Like Hell are my highlights from set two. This is probably the most complete show of September 01.
Stray Observations: Run Like Hell has Shimmy and Lobsterfari teases.

^^ This concert is a religious experience ^^
One of the better shows (top 3 imo) to an utterly ridiculously good late summer/fall tour and year. your favorite style of Bisco playing will be represented here; it's an extremely diverse set, which by the way, has no real full-stops and just rips through. thankfully the SBDs from these 2 Fox shows are excellent. also of note: Jigsaw! from set 1. phenomenal crescendo jamming in which Sammy lays down the situation with fury...controlled fury until around 16 mins. That's when the jam melts into a beautiful mellow jam with nice hammond type sweaping in the background; beautiful stuff. This is peak '01 Barber in his finest form. September 2001 is custom made for 200mg of pure MDMA.
1st set:: 9.65 / 10 2nd set:: 9.75 / 10 e: 3 / 5
** As Mr. Zan stated in his great top 100 of '01, you cannot get much better than the opening trio tonight...pure magic. It's my favorite opening hour of 1.0 Biscuits by a Moonlight Mile...or until I think of another show later on :) Like 9-1, 4-7 or the Pacific NW start of Nov shows, and that's only 2001 hahaha. Vancouver '01 will always be my Clifford Ball, Cornell '77, SCI Hornings '99, WSP '97 sit n' ski or Umphrey's at Notre Dame July 24 1999. Their playing is like a simple answer to a difficult math problem. I.E. The Flow State. Especially from The Triumph monster outro towards crescendo jam at double speed into Vass. and Jigsaw? I get high every time. **

Track Notes
- S1Triumph
Another fall 01 Triumph that explores every possible pocket of type 1 before moving on. The breakdown into Vassilios territory is very smooth, and the uncomposed peak before the drop into the song is fantastic.
- S1Jigsaw Earth
The trance jam begins with a feather light, airy trance theme from Magner, and is pushed forward by an excellent Barber/Sammy cooperation. It builds to an absolutely furious peak before returning to the chase section.
- S1Spaga
Patient atmospheric grooves build to a raging dnb conclusion.
- S2Reactor
The yin to 9/8’s yang. Like that version, this one has two fully fleshed-out themes. The first is a powerful Reactor jam, and the second is a slow-burn to the Ladies ending.
- S2And the Ladies Were the Rest of the Night
A mellow and melancholy trance vehicle that breaks down before rebuilding to the Crickets peak.
- S2Run Like Hell
The mid-verse jam goes unconventionally deep. Brownstein dives almost immediately into dub territory, before the jam heads into sparse trance. It builds to a Shimmy fakeout before returning to Run Like Hell.
