All-Timers
Track Notes
- S1Helicopters
MONSTER early version with two eminently patient trance themes. Magner leads the way in the first theme, allowing Barber to propel the jam into a spaced-out bliss section beginning around 9:30. The band emerges from this section more sharply focused, and build to the monstrous peak
- S2M.E.M.P.H.I.S.
For the first fourteen months of its history, the M.E.M.P.H.I.S. jam was always a very straightforward, energetic guitar solo. Building off the momentum of the previous night's M.E.M.P.H.I.S., this version (widely cited as the greatest, or at least most significant) begins in very mellow territory. Simple, repetitive riffs from Barber anchor the jam, allowing Magner to experiment with a variety of effects. They link up for some very meaningful interplay beginning around the four minute mark, and take turns building the jam and pushing it forward. The band pushes this theme as far as it can possibly go, nearly careening off the rails as they begin to lose control of the behemoth they’ve created, but they manage to stick the landing
- S2Basis For A Day
The first part of the main jam is chaotic and dissonant. Frenetic Barber shredding, ear-piercing synths and chaotic and uneven drumming characterize the first part of the jam. By 22:00, the jam begins to coalesce into a Basis ending, Ordo Ab Chao. The final minutes serve as a very fitting exclamation point to this important segment.
