Floes is a solid start to the show. I don’t think they’re breaking down any barriers here, but the jam is well-played and has some nice communication between the band. Onamae Wa is a cool song. Memphis first jam is much more “rocky” and much less electronic. I’m never a huge fan of these types of Memphis first jams, and I miss when Allen used this as an opportunity to get as digital as possible. Second Memphis jam doesn’t do much for me, and the Rapture jam never really leaves type 1 territory. Magellan is fine. The second set is a really cool theme, with everything being space-oriented (excepting Wet). The Very Moon > The Moon > Lunar Pursuit > The Very Moon > Astronaut > Spacebird > Astronaut is a cool concept. The first TVM jam is forgettable, however I really like the jam out of The Moon. I’m not usually big on their DNB jams, but this one has some interesting parts to it. It’s nothing incredible, but certainly a fun little jam, and has a nice half-time drop before heading to Lunar Pursuit. The jam out of Lunar is roughly the same. Parts are cool, parts are not. TVM > Astronaut > Spacebird is almost entirely forgettable. They extend the SITA jam quite a bit and eventually morphs into a nice (though short) ethereal sounding jam which gets into Spacebird territory far too soon. The Spacebird jam, on the other hand, is seriously awesome. Brownstein has a huge issue letting go of the “last measure” from Spacebird, but eventually does, and Barber goes crazy on the siren effect pedal. I typically hate this thing, but it’s done really cool here, and they develop a phenomenal theme. Awesome stuff, and eventually turns back into the SITA section of Astronaut. While they get back into the SITA section, Brownstein continues the Spacebird “last measure” quarter-notes as they get back into SITA, and it fits so well you’d almost think it was written that way. The jam back into Astronaut is okay, and Wet is always a solid encore.
