I have to be honest, there is very little that sounds interesting about a Summercamp festival set. So how did it turn out? The Story jam is a generic piece of jamfunk that never needs to be heard again. Both the Memphis 1st and 2nd jams (Basis intro) are very solid. Neither is breaking any new ground, but both showcase the band communicating in a locked in, interesting way. I’ll take it during a festival set. Basis is jammed out of the middle, and this is essentially a Tricycle peak jam from the very beginning. The Tricycle jam has a great Blissco jam in it that the band rounds out very well. There were a few moments where I felt like they might ditch what they were doing in favor of switching to a minor key, but they really saw this through all the way to the AC2B peak. No jam out of AC2B back into Basis middle. Meh. The 2nd Basis jam is frustrating, because it’s very well-played, and I even enjoy the theme. Mostly because the theme is essentially I-Man from the very beginning of this jam. Would have been nice to see some more patience here. The I-Man jam into the ending of Basis is fine, but this is about the exact dance jam you’d expect as a closer in a festival set. Breaking no new ground, and they hit the Basis ending theme way, way too early.
Highlights: Memphis (1, 2); Tricycle*
All-Timers
- S1I-Man
