Ladies begins with a very nice dance jam. This is nothing mindblowing, but solid with a great groove. Mitts is standard. Camera B features a very rare jam and subsequent segue. The jam is a pretty forgettable DNB jam, but the segue into Overture is very seamless. The jam out of Overture ditches the usual generic DNB in favor of a nice dance jam instead. Barber here has a great tone and minimalist riffs. Love it. Plan B has a laid back, spacey jam that features Magner on his Rhodes-y patch, and Barber with just a ton of delay on his guitar tone. This is really lovely.
Wet is standard to open the second set. Shimmy is a little weird here. The first several minutes are dark, middle-eastern sounding dance jam. Cool. Then they get into this weird rhythmic start/stop jam that I just could not care less about. The 42 jam here is alright. This gets a little too “shreddy” Barber for my tastes. The Humu jam on the other hand is really cool. This is ethereal, exploratory, and features the band leaning into a more “tribal” sound, which I’m totally fine with. Confrontation begins with a dark, digital jam, and just gets better from there. This is the jam of the night for me, easily. Really, really cool stuff. Lai encore is okay, but after the rest of the show, just okay is fine by me. Very solid show overall.
Highlights: Ladies, Overture, Plan B*, Humu*, Confrontation**
