Boop has an absolute trance onslaught to begin the show. The entire band is locked in, and feels like they could be close to out of control completely. I love this. Second jam is forgettable funk/blues jamming. Confrontation is fine. SJSS is jamless. First HDPF jam is nothing unique, and they botch a little bit on the return here. However, the second jam more than makes up for this. This is dance party central, and Brownstein in particular has some really cool phrasing and playing here. The entire band is on fire throughout this jam.
Most of Shelby is forgettable for me. Allen is on fire as always, but not a lot else here is interesting to me. The last 7-8 minutes is one long Munchkin peak, and that’s not a compliment. The jam out of Munchkin has a couple decent parts, though I was underwhelmed by the Shelby peak. Spacebird is boring here. A lot of these early Allen SBMC’s wind up stuck in the Spacebird structure so much that they aren’t given a chance to become interesting. Thankfully they figured this out eventually. Ladies is another phenomenal jam. This is much more “inside the box” than Boop early in the show, but this is intense, aggressive dance jamming. Love it. Hope is standard. Both TVM jams feel a little rushed, and neither really has a chance to develop into anything all that interesting.
Highlights: Boop**, HDPF (2**), Ladies**
